Manufactured in Philadelphia, the lightweight Torque Lever Drag 2-Speed features an open top design with machined and anodized aluminum body and sideplates, along with a lightweight forged aluminum spool. Quick Shift 2-speed system easily shifts into high or low gear. Engineered to provide long lasting PENN durability, the sealed Dura-Drag washers virtually eliminate hesitation, even under extreme drag settings.

2011 is the year Penn started renumbering their conventional reels with 40 for 4/0, 50 for 5/0, etc., to make the model numbering more consistent.

Line Capacity Rings
Eliminates the question of how much line you have left when fighting a fish. The three lines on the spool flange let you know when you have 1/3rd, 2/3rd, or a full spool of line. Also if you respool often these lines give you a benchmark for backing your superlines with monofilament which will help eliminate wasted time and line.
Dura Drag™
The Dura-Drag system results in smoother start ups and virtually eliminates hesitation, even under extreme drag settings. Unlike other products that advertise their high-potential drag settings but fail to inform you that these drag settings result in drag curves that are anything but angler friendly, and have a high potential to pop lines, pull hooks, and result in lost fish. If you do not find what you are looking for do a Google search with Mystic Reel Parts in the search with your model. I have a Penn 285 and 9 and it took me to the exact page for both. Also have the reel schematics.

I luckily found MysticParts via a Google search. Their website is comprehensive and I was at a loss on what I needed. Fortunately the “contact us” option was user friendly. To my delight I got a personalized and VERY helpful response right away. She asked questions to fully understand my needs and then followed up with links to the right parts.
