IMPORTANT CHANGE FOR 115L 9/0 and 116 12/0 Reels

AS OF 1989:

Penn changed the design on the reel. They redesigned the Right Side Bearing (Handle Side), and modified the Right Side Plate and the Spool to accommodate the design.

If you have the NEWER 26-116 Right Side Bearing as shown on the right in the photo, your reel is the newer design. If you need to change to the newer design, you will need:

    1-115 Handle Side Plate (Black) (1-115LH if left hand)
    26-116 Bearing with Cap, Handle Side
    29L-115 Spool, Aluminum (Black)

If you have the OLDER Right Side Screw-In Friction Bearing as shown on the left in the photo, your reel is the older design (Old part numbers were 26-114 on the 115L). The newer bearing is NOT compatible with the older plate and spool.

Even older first run generation of the 115 reel with the old 3 pc spool with "hubs" on the shaft, had bearing 40-114 on the non-handle side (check for part number). The older chromed hub spool will NOT work with ANY of the newer side plates and bearings as the shafts were different.

The newer bearing is NOT compatible with the older plate and spool. The 116 has an added change in the spool blocking where the pinion sits, so the gap on the pinion was widened.
