Penn 49 Super Mariner WIDE Model 49A |  |
8/30/2013. One of our customers brought this reel in for show and tell. He found it in a bucket of old items. It is a 49 Super Mariner, but it is 3/4" wider than it should be. The stand is a 30-200, the posts are 37-67, and the spool is of unknown origin..it doesn't match up to any of the Penn spools that we have in stock.

The Wide 49 is the 49A. It was made only for South African fisherman. They were never offered in the USA. Some of the reels have 49A on the handle side plate, but some do not. The newer models from the mid 60's are just plain 49 side plates.
If you run across one of these, we have no source for replacing the spool.

Since you can't walk into Penn reels in Philly anymore, this is the next best thing. Thanks for your services!!!!! Even parts for vintage reels. Delivery is super quick as well.

If you do not find what you are looking for do a Google search with Mystic Reel Parts in the search with your model. I have a Penn 285 and 9 and it took me to the exact page for both. Also have the reel schematics.

I luckily found MysticParts via a Google search. Their website is comprehensive and I was at a loss on what I needed. Fortunately the “contact us” option was user friendly. To my delight I got a personalized and VERY helpful response right away. She asked questions to fully understand my needs and then followed up with links to the right parts. We continued our email exchange regarding my second reel issue and, again, she was extremely knowledgeable and gave me both practical as well as professional solutions.
