I own massively expensive baitcasting reels - for everything from largemouth bass to tarpon - and fine conventional lever-drags for offshore beasts, but the Squall 12 might be the most versatile, best all around reel I have ever seen, especially for the southeastern surf. Big enough to go on the 10-footer, and an absolute dream on the 8'6" light rod, it can toss plugs and jigs a mile, and is comfortable on the retrieve. It can also sling lead up to 4-5 ounces on a bait rig, has a fast retrieve to recover line quickly, a good clicker, and a simple, sturdy (and elegant) design. The magnetic cast control works REALLY well, and the drag and centrifugal brake have a nice 'click' when they are adjusted. Highly recommended!
