Overview:

Levelwind Series - from bottom fishing for flounder to trolling for stripers on the Chesapeake, the Penn Level Wind is perhaps the most popular and well-known inshore conventional reel. As for the guts of the Level Wind series of reels, a precision machined stainless steel pinion and high strength bronze alloy main gear provides some serious cranking power, while the soft-grip counter balanced handle makes it a pleasure to do so. (2004 Penn Catalog)

WHERE THEY WERE MADE: Originally Made in the USA, modern reels from the late 90's onwards were made in China.

Name/Series: Peerless, Peer, Monofil, Monofil Sr, Super Peer

Reel Info:

HISTORY:

Called the "New! MONOFIL" in 1958 catalog. Early models had plastic spools. "M" Designates chrome over bronze metal. spool. Modern spools are black aluminum, but rather than changing the model from 9M to 9L etc, Penn just left the model numbers as is.

The 9 PEERLESS Monofil:
Originally were plastic spooled reels.
9F had 2 3/8" stand for Baitcasting rods
9S had 2 11/16" stand for saltwater rods.
Later models: 9MF and 9MS had the same stands as well as metal spools (chromed brass).
The current model 9M uses an aluminum spool. It's stand 30N-9 is 2 7/16" long.

The 109 PEER Monofil:
Plastic spooled reels originally.
109F had 2 3/8" stand for Baitcasting rods
109S had 2 11/16" stand for saltwater rods.
109MF, 109MS had the same stands as well as metal spools (chromed brass).
Eventually they only made one 109M in the saltwater size. The most recent model used an aluminum spool.

The 209 PEER Sr. Monofil:
209F had 30-209F stand for Baitcasting rods
209S had 30-209S stand for saltwater rods.
209 was a plastic spooled reels, 209M metal spooled (chromed brass). The most recent model uses an aluminum spool.
As of 2006, These reels are made in China. Anything that says Made In Usa on the sideplates is an older reel.

The 209LC Line Counter:
In 2007 Penn took the 209 Levelwind and modified it to become the Line Counter reel with a larger Gear
Ratio. Original 209 Reel was 2.8:1 compared to the 209LC reels 3.2:1

The 309 Penn Super Peer:
Called the "New!" in 1966 catalog. Unique King Sized Reel. The most recent model uses an aluminum spool.
As of 2006, These reels are made in China. Anything that says Made In Usa on the sideplates is an older reel.

12/21/2023 Got it! Its perfect. Thank you so much. It was just on a whim that I even searched for this part. Hard to believe that I could get a reel part for a reel that is 30 plus years old. Thanks again,
