NOTES: Penn's current manufacturing run of these bearings are difficult to screw in and
may require a pair of pliers to tighten the bearing to the desired setting.
A machinist has told us that this issue probably exists due to the manufacturing die being worn.
7/2023 G. Robertson: The problem is described as the newer cup threads being .584 at the spool side of the cup and tapered to .580 at the threads nearest the collar of the cup, so that the threads are threads were not machined square to the cup. This causes the threading issue when trying to install the bearing.
To troubleshoot this issue:
Per MysticParts: If the bearing is too tight initially to install normally, our reel tech cleans the threads by installing the bearing from the inside of the side plate.
Screw it in and out multiple times to work the threading a bit, then retry installation of the bearing in the correct side of the side plate.
7/2023 G. Robertson: A 32 TPI thread file can be used to square up the threads on the oversized portion of the cup thread and blend them to the .580 dimension of the remaining threads. The bearing threads can then be either machine polished (note: or brushed with a wire brush ~Mo MysticParts) to remove any burrs.
